In its avowed commitment
to the welfare of its citizenry, the Cross River State Government has taken a bold step by harmonising the pension emoluments of both old and new retirees in the state.
To this end, the state Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke has been commended for harmonising the pension of pensioners of both State and the Unified Local Government System in the state.
The commendation was made by the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Godwin Ayendi while addressing the committee that was charged with the implementation of harmonised pension in the Unified Local Government System.
Comrade Ayendi said that, the approval and subsequent implementation of the pension was a clear indication that the Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, was truly a leader with the interest of the people at heart.
He said that though the retired staff of the Unified Local Government System were no longer members he would continue to protect their interest in course of his duties.
Comrade Ayendi, who is also a member of the Local Government Pension Board, said that with the harmonisation exercise being implemented the affected pensioners were bound to heave a sign of relief.
He said that his union was particularly proud of the governor as he had demonstrated that he was totally committed to the enthronement of democracy at the local government level, adding that since he came on board, the democratic structure at the local level, had not been disrupted.
