Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, has warned the newly sworn-in chairman of Bakassi Local Government Area, Mrs. Edisua Usang Iso not to see her office as a means to an end but rather, as an opportunity to put in place policies and programmes that would be of great benefit to the people.
Governor Imoke who issued the warning while swearing-in the last of the 18 elected council chairmen elected in the September 21, 2013 council poll in the State also advised that those to be appointed should have the capacity and understand the programmes of government.
Usang Iso could not be sworn in along with the other 17 elected officers during the December 17, swearing in ceremony as her predecessor had yet to serve out his term.? The out-gone council chairman was voted into office one month after his colleagues.
Imoke noted that the area had carved a niche for itself as a local government that gets its chairman sworn into office one month after others, which shows the beauty of democracy and the compliance to the rule of law and the Constitution, adding that Bakassi was a model to the rest of the country.
“Having ceded your ancestral home to another country and got resettled, 1congratulate your sense of ownership in spite of your challenges,” he said.
Imoke assured that government would continue to address their challenges while noting that the people have the challenge of good governance, challenge of development, education, childcare and health.
