Opportunities for Women Empowerment Realization, POWER and wife of the Cross River State Governor, Mrs. Obioma Liyel-Imoke, has been presented with her Permanent Voters Card (PVC). The event which took place at the Government Primary school polling unit, Itigidi, Abi local government area of the State, saw women and youths from the Central Senatorial District being sensitized.
Mrs. Imoke, who is the wife of the Governor of Cross Rivers State enjoined Cross River Women and youths to endeavor to pick up their permanent voters’ card ( PVC) at their various wards to enable them vote in the coming election. “Friends, Nigerians, countrymen lend me your ears. Please endeavor to pick up your Permanent Voters Card (PVCs), it is your own personal right as a Nigerian and please ask everyone around you to do same. Do not be an arm chair decision – maker, make your opinion count,” she advised.
The PVC advocacy was facilitated by the Power Political for Women Advancement (PP4WA), a project of POWER that pursues the inclusion of more women in political leadership.
Mrs. Imoke, who was received by state Chapter of Women for Change Initiative, National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) as well as members of the Grassroot Women charged them to mobilize and step up the sensitization in other wards for collection of the Permanent Voters’ Card.
The wife of the Governor noted that the PVC enables them to not only secure their voting right in the forthcoming elections but also provides them with the opportunity to vote for candidates of their choice as well as benefit from the state Government’s free medical care for women and children, employment, among other social services.
She announced that the PVC is the right of every eligible voter, and admonished them to go from house to house, to enlighten women and the youths, on the need to have their PVCs to ensure the future of their children as leaders of tomorrow.
The state coordinator, Women for Change lnitistive, Pastor (Mrs.) Eno Oqua and wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Gloria Efiok Cobham, commended women for their support and expressed the hope that the message would be taken seriously.
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of the Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) to the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Obioma Liyel-Imoke, by the Electoral officer, Mr. Cletus Ashikabe.
The Chairman of Calabar South local government area Mrs. Marjorie Eyo Asuquo, as well as Abi local government area Chairman, Mrs. Edith Amadi and that of Ogoja Rita Anyim were present at the occasion. Also in attendance were the Head of Service, Ntunkae Mary Theresa Ikwem, Permanent secretaries, female vice chairmen, councilors among others.
