The Police Command in Delta State says it has arrested an operator of bureau d’ change for conspiracy and robbery of another operator of N5 million in Asaba.
The Command’s Public Relations, Officer (PPRO), Mr Lucky Uyabeme, told newsmen in Asaba, that the victim, Mr Victor Ibenye, operated a bureau de change in Onitsha, Anambra State.
He said Ibenye reported that on Saturday, April 20, a fellow operator in Asaba, invited him to Asaba to exchange some dollars worth N5 million for an unknown customer.
“However, on his (Ibenye’s) arrival at Asaba, the said operator took him to meet the purported customer at “Southgate Hotel” where he (Ibenye) was robbed by three armed men hiding in the hotel room.
“Based on the report, detectives swung into action and arrested the operator Meanwhile, investigation is on and efforts being intensified to arrest the three fleeing suspects.”
Uyabeme also said that the police had shot dead four armed robbery suspects following a gun duel at Abraka Market Road in Asaba.
He said that the police also in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area, arrested two persons for being in possession and smoking substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
Uyabeme said the police recovered one pump action gun and six cartridges from the drug suspects, and two locally-made cut to size pistols from the armed robbery suspects.
He said the area unit 31 Police Mobile Force last Saturday, April 27, undertook range practice at the improvised range ground, Ogwashi-Uku, and advised the people not to panic.
