The newly-inaugurated Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr Hassan Kadiri, has said that councils are meant to satisfy the generality and not individuals.
Kadiri, who announced this last Tuesday in Auchi after assuming duties, said his administration would introduce radical changes in running the council.
He said that it was regrettable that people perceived the local government system as an avenue to satisfy the interests of a few individuals rather than those of the general public.
Kadiri was among the 14 newly-elected council chairmen inaugurated on Monday by Gov. Adams Oshomhole following their weekend electoral victories at the council polls.
“We want a local government that is service-oriented, council that is ready to serve the people. “We are going to be re-orientating the attitude of the local staff to their duties. They must be ready to work for the people,” he said.
“There is this belief that local government is meant to satisfy the interest of certain individuals, we will be changing all this and also initiate policies that will be people-driven,’’ he added, and advised the staff of the council to brace up for imminent changes they would see in the next few days.
