Bishops from the
Niger Delta region, under the aegis of Association of Niger Delta Bishops Incorporated, last Monday said they would commence a three-day prayer session for the kidnapped Chibok girls.
The prayer will also seek divine intervention on the current security situation as well as the 2015 elections.
General Secretary of the association, Bishop Edet Mfon, who disclosed this in Calabar, Cross River State, on behalf of his colleagues, said the church would not wait and watch the nation boil without stepping in.
According to him, the three-day prayer, which begins on July 24, will focus on the release of the kidnapped Chibok girls as well as general insecurity in the country and peace during the 2015 general elections.
Mfon said, “We have heard people say we should divide this country. But dividing this country is not the solution.  We have come to Calabar to hold onto God for the release of the Chibok girls, the fall of Boko Haram in this country and next year’s general election which we are seeing some ominous signs.”
According to him,  the choice of Calabar as the venue of the prayers was as a result of being the first capital of the country.
He said, “We have earlier been to Delta, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states and we were to go to Edo State, but we were reminded by the Spirit of God that Calabar was the first capital of the country and that we should come and make our supplications here. “The spiritual fathers are concerned about the current security situation in the country because this is our country and we are stakeholders in this country.
“We are not a political association but fathers and custodians of God’s promise to the country.  But we would also like to say that President Goodluck Jonathan should be allowed to complete his eight year tenure because God is a God of justice, he added.
