The Cross River State Government has strongly warned trespassers and illegal land vendors to desist from their unwholesome acts on the stretch of land along Calabar – Ikoneto Road, particularly the Tinapa Road axis stretching from Calabar – Ikom Highway to the Tinapa Road/Adiabo Junction in Odukpani.

A statement signed by the Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Surveyor. Ralph Uche emphasised that Government would act decisively against any act of trespass on the Tinapa Road/Adiabo Junction of Calabar – Ikoneto Road which rights of occupnacy were revoked.

Surveyor. Uche in the statement also warned members of the public to be wary of any land transaction along Calabar – Ikoneto Road, especially the Tinapa Road axis stretching from the Calabar – Ikom Highway to the Tinapa Road/Adiabo Junction.

He said that government’s  attention had been drawn to trespasses and encroachments on the land declared as right-of-way of Calabar – Ikoneto Road by some unscrupulous persons.

According to him,  persons purportedly claim the rights they do not possess particularly on the stretch along the Tinapa Road in Adiabo, Odukpani Local Government Area which rights of occupancy were revoked.

Uche explained that Government had in a notice of revocation of rights of occupancy for public purpose explained that all that piece or parcel of land lying on both sides of the Calabar – Ikoneto Road which stretches from the junction of Calabar – Ikom Highway to the bridge head at Adiabo fell within right-of way.

The notice of revocation, he stated, was published on page 13 in the Nigerian Chronicle of Wednesday, July 28, 2004 captioned “Notice of Revocation of Rights of Occupancy for Public Purpose” under the Land Use Act 1978.

Surveyor. Uche further stated that Government had absolutely revoked that stretch of land for public purpose and in particular for the expansion of the Calabar – Ikoneto Road and for creation of a special development corridor.

The statement therefore, reminded members of the public to be aware that the notice of revocation was still subsisting as it has not been reversed or reviewed.

“Members of the public, trespassers and illegal land vendors are by the statement advised to be guided accordingly,” the statement further warned.
