A non-governmental orga
nization OANDO Foundation last weekend took a giant stride towards improving early child development in the ancient city of Calabar, the Cross River State capital, by launching a special centre.
Speaking at the occasion, the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Obioma Liyel-Imoke, noted that the launching of OANDO Foundation Early Child Development Centre at the St Patrick’s Primary School Odukpani, Cross River State, would help improve children education in the State.
Mrs. Imoke said by this act, OANDO has proven that it is truly committed to the transformation of the current early childhood education system in Nigeria in a bid to establish a generation of true leaders for the future.
She believes that education is the best gift that parents/guardians can bequeath to a child and noted that the desire to provide quality life and education motivated her to initiate MACA, an NGO that leads and facilitates collective action for the protection of all children in Nigeria.
“At a personal level, I facilitated the establishment of an international school in Calabar. This school is a solution to people who desire qualitative education for their wards,” She said.
The Director of OANDO Foundation, Ms. Tokunboh Durosaro, said the gesture was part of their corporate social responsibility intimating that OANDO has till date adopted 6 schools in Cross River State disclosing that Ekorinim Primary School was the first school to benefit from this initiative.
She said that OANDO has provided favorable environment in line with the curriculum, and will continue to provide books, desks, infrastructure, teaching aids as well as capacity building for the teachers to enable them impact knowledge well to the children.
In his remarks the commissioner for Education, Prof. Offiong E. OffIong congratulated OANDO Foundation, for keeping faith with the MoU signed between them and the state government in adopting a school adding that they have continued to show confidence in what they do with the 6 schools they adopted.
He appealed to them to extend their benevolence to other schools stating that early child care development education sets a sound educating foundation of children and helps in nurturing them well to become great scholars.
