The Ecclesiastical Prov
ince of Niger Delta North Diocese has rated the administration of Governor Amaechi high in the provision of educational infrastructure to the state.
A communiqué at the end of its first session of the seventh synod held at St Barnabas (Ang) Church Elekahia said that the situation has not only made the state the UNESCO World Book capital for 2014, but turned the state into the education hub of Sub-Saharan African.
The communiqué also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for his relentless pursuit of the transformation agenda despite the security challenges in the country and urged him to remain steadfast in the effort to keep Nigeria united.
Signed by the Diocesan Chancellor, Sir Barrister Emeka Ichoku and the Synod Secretary, Niger Delta North Diocese, Rev. Canon Saturday T. Nbete, it urged Christians to aspire for political offices with a view to bringing Godly influence to governance.
The synod also condemned the wanton destruction of lives and property as well as abduction of over 200 girls in Chibok by the Boko Haram sect and commended the United Nations for listing the group as a terrorist organisation.
In his presidential address during the synod, the Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta, Rt Rev. Ignatius Kattey, urged politicians of Rivers extraction not to see the 2015 general elections as a do-or-die affair.
“Elections should not be a do-or-die affairs and no election is good enough for anybody’s blood to be spilled.
“Peace in Rivers State and elsewhere must not be short charged at whatever price before and after the elections”, he said.
Kattey who is also the Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North, said it was the time for peace building and reconstruction and said politicians should learn to play the game by the rule.
“Rather than arming the vulnerable youths preparatory to prosecuting an election the politicians in any side of the political divide should teach youths how best to eke a living through gainful and meaningful jobs” , he said.
The clergyman also commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the convocation of a National Conference to address all the grey areas that have bedevilled the nation and condemned the high rate of rape cases in the country.
The synod was attended by several Bishops from various parts of the country.
