In keeping with his pro
active approach to security, Cross River State Government has concluded plans to launch a Security Trust Fund as part of strategy to sustain its status as the safest State in the country.
The state Security Adviser, Mr. Rekpene Bassey, who disclosed this at a security stakeholders’ meeting in Calabar, maintained that the decision was borne out of the state’s desire to have the private sector participate fully in the management and execution of security measures in the state.
According to Mr. Bassey, Cross River State Law No.2, establishing the Trust Fund, was enacted in 2009 to give the body its legal backing, adding that when fully operational, the body would open its arms to Public Private Partnership in managing security in the state.
“Security is everybody’s responsibility, and government, in its wisdom has created a platform that will encourage Public Private Partnership in pulling resources for effective and more efficient management of security business,” he contended.
One of the cardinal focuses of the Committee, according to Rekpene, is to deploy modern security technology across the state to proactively stem out every form of threat.
He, however, explained that “essentially, we are motivated by the need to encourage private involvement for effective security because we believe that it should be private sector-driven, and it is hoped that members of the committee would support the workings in line with current realities.”
