The Commissioner in the
Directorate of Special Infrastructure in Delta, Mrs Orezi Esievo, last Wednesday, called for adequate budgetary allocation to the directorate for completion of ongoing “mega” projects in the state.
Esievo made the call in Asaba while defending the directorate’s budget estimate in the 2014 Appropriation Bill of the state before the Finance and Appropriation Committee of the state House of Assembly.
She listed the projects as Asaba/Ughelli Highway dualisation, expansion of the Osubi airport to international status and the completion of the Asaba International Airport.
Others, according to her, are the completion of the Eku Baptist Hospital and completion of four new polytechnics.
Esievo said that the directorate needed the sum of N23 billion to complete the Asaba-Ughelli dualisation project before the end of 2014.
She said that the directorate also needed adequate fund to complete the Osubi Airport, noting that out of the N40 billion approved for the project in 2013, only N10 billion was released.
Esievo, therefore, appealed to the committee that adequate funds should be appropriated for the completion of the airport and all its ongoing projects.
She said that the directorate embarked on 119 projects in 2013 and 80 per cent of them had been completed.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Mr Daniel Mayuku, said that his team would embark on an inspection tour of the Osubi Airport and other mega projects to assess their level completion.
