Repentant militants in
the Niger Delta have exonerated Archbishop Friday Nwator from allegations of embezzlement of funds meant for the payment of ex-militants.
President of the Association of Repentant Militants, Mr Jones Rufus Abam, said at a press briefing last Wednesday in Port Harcourt that Arch Bishop Friday Nwator, a Special Adviser to former Governor Peter Odili, was not given any money by the Rivers State Government or the Federal Government for militants.
Abam also said that the allegation that Arch Bishop Nwator and Chief A.K Horsfall were given sixty million naira for their rehabilitation by the Rivers State Government was false as the Archbishop was not even a member of the Horsfall Rehabilitation Committee set up by the state government.
Speaking during the briefing, Archbishop Friday Nwator who is also the President of the Nigeria House of Peace, described the allegation as surprising, as he was never involved in any committee where money was disbursed for the amnesty programme, adding that he used his money to cater for many militants even before the amnesty was declared by the Federal Government.
The clergyman described the allegation against him as a “deliberate attempt by some persons to smear his good image and warned those involved to retrace their steps.
He, however, vowed to continue to pray for the peace of Rivers State and Nigeria.
