The Save Accident Victims Association of Nigeria (SAVAN) and the Fountain of Living Water,  an international NGO, have restated the fact that saving lives is the responsibility of everyone.

They made this assertion in separate interviews in Benin  during a workshop on resuscitation of heart attack and choking patients.

The National President of SAVAN, Dr Edeaghe Ehikamenor, said the workshop was to establish a platform for capacity building on the acquisition of basic skills needed to save lives.

He said it was organised by three bodies, the Central Hospital in Benin, SAVAN and the U.S-based Fountain of Living Water.

“You cannot really stop somebody from dying, but saving a life means prolonging someone’s days on earth. “The essence of this programme therefore is to give participants the skills that will enable them to prolong the lives of people who come up with heart attacks or are in choking conditions,” Ehikamenor said.

A nurse educator at Fountain of Living Water, Mrs Marian Heenehan said the NGO was in Benin to educate people on how to resuscitate victims undergoing heart attacks or in choking situations.

She said that a quick response to victims undergoing such a situation would help save their lives before the arrival of medical personnel.
