Two suspected armed
robbers have been shot dead by the Nigeria Police, Warri Area Command.
Leader of a patrol team, ASP Johnbull Aigbodion, who made the disclosure, said that the two suspects, who belonged to a four-man gang, were shot dead recently.
He said that the four robbers allegedly snatched a Toyota Highlander Jeep with registration number KJA 320 BK from one Azubike Nwajuana at Ajamimogha area of Warri at about 5p.m.
“We were on routine patrol; we pursued the bandits all the way to the bridge linking Chevron office complex and Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS).
“There we engaged them in a shootout after the jeep in which the robbers were escaping with skipped and somersaulted,’’he said.
Aigbodion, who sustained injury in the gun duel, said that the bandits, who jumped into the river, shot at his men even while inside the river.
An eye witness told newsmen that the robbers dived into the river under the bridge to escape.
He added that two of them, however, met their Waterloo when security operatives swooped on them.
The state Commissioner of Police Zanna Ibrahim, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Warri.
The commissioner, who promised to make life difficult for criminals in the state, urged them to either turn a new leaf or relocate from the state.
“Two of the robbers were killed and the other two escaped with gun shots wound.
‘’Arms and ammunition were recovered from the bandits as well as the stolen vehicle,’’ he said, adding that efforts were on to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
