Police Arrest Two Armed Robbery Suspects, Save Kidnapped Victim

The Police in Cross River
said they had arrested two suspected armed robbers with a stolen car recovered from them.
Briefing newsmen on the activities of the Command, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Henry Fadairo, said the suspects were arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Obudu Local Government Area of the state.
“The suspects were arrested after snatching a Lexus Ash-coloured Jeep valued at N4 million from a woman and her ATM card which they used to withdraw the sum of N31, 000.
“The jeep and other valuables belonging to their victim were recovered by the police. The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded,’’ Fadairo said.
Similarly, the commissioner said that men of the SARS had in the early hours of Friday April 8, rescued one Bartholomew Effiong in Bacoco community in Calabar from his abductors.
He said that the victim was kidnapped on March 7 by heavily armed gunmen while his Camry car was also snatched from him.
“On April 7, our men received a distress call that one Bartholomew Effiong had been kidnapped.
“The SARS team quickly proceeded to Bacoco community, surveyed the area and pin down for a while.
The next day being April 8, the suspects were sighted by our men and heavy shooting occurred.
“Our men over-powered them and they escaped into a nearby bush with gunshots wounds. The victim and the vehicle were recovered while investigation is on to arrest the fleeing robbers/kidnappers,’’ he said.
The commissioner disclosed that the command also arrested one Salisu Abubakar on March 3 with a stolen Nissan car with registration number AWK 58 TK.
He said that men of the police on a stop-and-search duty arrested the suspect when they found out that the names on the particulars of the vehicle were different from his name.
“A call was put across to the owner of the vehicle from the phone number we saw in the particulars. He confirmed that his car was stolen from him at Eleme in Rivers.
“The suspect has since confessed to the crime. He will be charged to court soon,’’ he said.
