Ibom have arrested two suspected gunrunners along Itu Road in Uyo.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Cordelia Nwawe, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on activities of the command.
She said that the suspects, who hailed from Ogoja local government area of Cross River, aged 35 and 28 years were under security watch.
“The two gunrunners were under security watch for some time now and were confirmed to be trading on locally made Berretta English pistol.
The PPRO also said that the command on March 31, arrested one Emmanuel Nkanga from Oku Ikot Edung village in Uruan local government area for illegal possession of two revolver locally made pistols.
“On March 25, the command arrested an armed robbery suspect and recovered one locally made pistol from him.
“The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Murtala Mani, has warned criminals to stay off Akwa Ibom as the state was no longer conducive for them.
“The suspects will soon be charged to court as soon as investigations are completed,’’ she said.
Confessing to the crime, one of the suspects, said that they were travelling from Ogoja to supply the guns to their agent in Bayelsa.
“We were coming from Ogoja when the police arrested us along Itu Road. We were going to supply the gun to one of our agents in Bayelsa at N100, 000 per gun,” he said.
“The business of gunrunning is lucrative during election periods’’, he said.
